Removing Stains On Garage Floors
In the everyday use of an average home the garage floor usually takes quite a beating, and over time the eventual chore of removing stains from garage floors can be a troublesome task if neglected for too long. Oil, grease and rust are the three major culprits of stains on garage floors and none of them come out easily, but removing stains becomes much easier when armed with a few minor but important tidbits of knowledge.
Stain removal tools must be gathered prior to taking any action, and these include a small bag of cat litter, a stiff brush to scrub with, a bottle of Dawn Dish Soap, a can or bottle of Coca-Cola and a garden hose. Sounds nuts, right? Perhaps so, but each of these items plays a critical role in removing stains on garage floors that contributes in a big way to the overall stain removal process.
Locate each area that has an oil or grease stain and pour a moderate amount of cat litter on it, and then step on it with your body weight to press it down firmly. Leave the cat litter sit for at least 12 hours and then sweep it up. These types of stains on garage floors get absorbed considerably into the litter and with each application a bit more is lifted.
For removing stains on garage floors that are due to rust nothing works better than a refreshing Coca-Cola. Simply pour an amount of Coke onto the rust spot allowing it to rest for 5 minutes or so, give it a brief scrub with the brush and then rinse away with a garden hose. It's amazing how old rust stains on garage floors disappear in minutes using this trick.
The last step for getting rid of stains on garage floors involves the use of Dawn Dish Soap. It works fantastically on grease and oil on dishes and it has the same impact on removing stains from garage floors. Pour a liberal amount on the affected areas and allow it to work it's magic for about 10 to 15 minutes. Go back and agitate it with a scrub brush and then hose off the remainder thoroughly with your garden hose.
Although you may have to repeat these processes several times to get good results, at the end of the day removing stains is not as difficult as it looks and stains on garage floors can be conquered in a satisfactory manner.
